Default Anyone have a Little Black Stonefly dry fly pattern?

I went fishing on a local stream yesterday and there was a hatch of Little Black Stoneflies happening. They were about a size #18.

Problem was that I didn't have anything remotely like that in my fly boxes and I'm having a heck of a time finding a pattern. So if anyone has a pattern for the Little Black Stonefly (in a dry fly pattern - not a nymph) I'd greatly appreciate it.

    Thanks,

    -Darryl

    Try this Spring stone

Hook - dry fly sz. 14-18

    Thread - black

Tail - black moose or bear, tied split (like biots)

    Body - black fur

wing - center tip of a mallard flank feather, coated with vinyle cement tied flat over body

Hackle - Grizzly, dun or black

    antennae - same as tail

I will try, 18 hook- black dub, then take coastal deer hair (BLK) tie hair on facing forward pull back over fly placing thread about1/8 inch back from tip of hook eye. This forms a round head with wing behind the head. Hope I explained it OK, It has worked for many years for me.

E Mail me if you want.

    Elk Hair Caddis...

Use black dubbing and hackle, cow elk (dark shades or dyed) for the wing. Dub the body a bit thinner and hackle one size undersized than standard EHC= size 20 fly on a #18 hook.

Here is a good pattern I use size 16 or 14 dry fly hook reg or x long,

Black 6 or 8 Uni thread or other to suit you

Black dyed deer hair or buck tail black and Grey or rusty color dubbing extra fine stuff works good.

Dark dun or brown or ginger type saddle or cape hackle.

It's real simple to tie up and works great here in Ohio for are Black stoneflys

Add tail wrap body just past half way on shank than wrap hackle rest of way up shank form small head and if you really want to to work good clip hackle so it looks like a com para style straight across the bottom of fly. It will ride lower and seems to catch my fish IMHO but I'd Tye up both styles full hackle and comp style and see which works better for you you could also add a wing off the back of the hackle like a stimulator or sofa pillow type as this has caught many fish and have had good feed back from Folks that I've sent them to. This is one of the main ones I use here in Ohio and hope it works as good for you as it has in the past 6 yrs for me. Later matt

    Sz 14-18 Dry fly hook
    Body: black thread
Thorax: ball of grey or black CDC dubbed onto thread
Wing: Grey elk hair swept back Troth style
Overwing: a few strands of white deer or elk for better visibility
