    Default Tungsten Beads

I am tying some beadhead patterns with Tungsten beads on size 14, 16, & 18 TMC 2488 hooks.

I find the 5/64" beads perfect for size 18 and the 3/32" beads great for size 16. The problem is, I can't find any 7/64" beads for my size 14 hooks. 1/8" beads just look too big for this hook and also obscure the gape more than I would like. I assume someone makes 7/64" Tungsten since the size is noted on the labels.

    Anyone ever use this size?

Gary, this company lists the 7/64 tungsten bead on their website.

I've used the 1/8" tungston beads they are a bit on the big side but they get the flies down really quick! I usually dont use them on hooks smaller then a size #8. Otherwise they begin to cover the hooks eye.

Just a heads up- If you want to save the money on the cost of the Tungsten beads use regular beads and add a few wraps of lead behind the bead. It is a whole lot cheaper and works just as well. Ron

The only problem with that is around here you cant use lead weights or split shot. At least where the trout are. So the next best thing is the tungston.
