    If you have the cover in weighing position when you turn it on, it should zero it out or press the Tare button.

    I use the tare button to zero the scale before I put the line on the scale.

    Sounds good Herefishy, but doesn't your scale have a "tare" feature that automatically subtracts the weight of the cover?

    Yes, it does, and works perfectly. The line came in at 8.6 grams, so am assuming it's a 5 wt. Great little scale.
