Squirrels are the day shift and rats are the night shift.
If you have bird feeders, you should "clean up" and put them away each night.
I know that sounds like a lot of trouble, but if you don't most likely you will be feeding rats at night!

When I lived up north I learned to really hate squirrels and chipmunks. I had a really nice two man popup darkhouse which they chewed all up in the rafters of my shed. Mice were bad too. Chipmunks used to terrorize my poor cat. They'd tease her until she got close and charged, then up the tree and chatter at her. We rented a trailer site on property to my wife's sister who had a cat. One day I'm watch a chippie making fun of my cat while she held her ground and the chippie felt pretty safe. What it didn't realize is other cat was sneaking quietly around side and when close she pounced and BLAM, one less chipmunk to chew on things.
I do save the tails from the ones my nephew shoots tho for flies for sure. Makes great small fur streamers.
I usually kill a crap-ton of ground squirrels, and use those tails. If I don't kill them, my students will bring them to me after they do.
