I am not familiar with the Huntsville area for trout fishing, but, 45 minutes away there is the Elk River at the base of the dam on Tim's Ford Lake in Tennessee. There are usually a lot of fisherman from the Huntsville area fishing the Elk. From the dam down about 25 miles is pretty good fishing for trout.

Fly fishing and fly tying are two things that I do, and when I am doing them, they are the only 2 things I think about. They clear my mind.
The only problems with the Elk are two: 1) The license price is exorbitant, and 2) It is a tailwater and you need to check the generation schedule.
An hour south of town is the Sipsey which again is a tailwater, but the license is much more reasonable, and there is a fly shop on the river that can help you out.
Holler at me if you need more info. czkid at knology dot net.
