Default Quigley's Bed Head Stonefly SBS

Wish Mr. Quigley was still around; he came up with some very inventive stuff. Another one based on pure speculation since I only had a few pics to go by, but after tying down a few blind alleys I think I worked out a fairly easy sequence; subsequent flies went a lot quicker. Tied here in golden stone colors (this should also work for the short-wing/nocturnal stone); change to suit your needs.
note the return of the damaged thumbnail (slammed car trunk lid); unknown if it'll measure up to the previous version

    hook - Dai Riki 280 #8
    thread - UTC 140 tan
    binder strip - 2mm foam
    body - 2mm foam gold
rear feelers - rubber medium brown
body hackle - ginger grizzly (undersize by 2)
    wing - deer hair
    flash - Krystal Flash rootbeer
front legs - rubber medium brown
    hackle - ginger grizzly

    Part 1

a little body prep first; thread rubber leg through needle

then through back end of foam strip (gap width)

mash barb, start thread at 70% mark and wrap back to point above barb

tie in binder strip, wrap forward; tie off, trim and return thread to point above barb

    Part 2

mount foam on hook with feelers at tie-in point; 2 soft loops (to prevent cutting the foam), then a few firmer ones

    tie in hackle

fold back foam, move thread forward

pull foam forward, take a wrap of hackle, then pull the foam back and secure the hackle; brush on a little Super Glue

create next body segment and repeat hackling sequence (creating the segmented body first, then ribbing with hackle is another option, but a lot less durable; your choice); continue forward to 70% mark

    Part 3

tie down foam, trim, smooth with thread wraps

clean, stack, measure (shank length) a clump of deer hair; tie in with tips facing forward

tie in rubber legs and KF

tie in front hackle; wrap forward, tie off, trim tip

half hitch x 2, SHHAN; trim deer hair butts, KF, legs and feelers

    dorsal

    ventral
