Thread: Google Earth to find fish

Default Google Earth to find fish

I found the most amazing use for Google's mapping application that you can download for free from Earth.google.com. I think that is right. you can do a google search for google earth and find the software.

In my neighborhood there are 3 ponds and the last pond behind the last two feeds into a creek that is totally kayakable for 3 miles and ends up in the lake downstream. I am sure that kayakable is not a word. but I will kayak that creek and I will catch some Bass and Bluegill. And I will walk there.

I have used the software to find flats in Laguna Madre and Eleuthera as well.

Has anyone else discoverd this jewel. I recommend that you download it and start you recon before your next trip.

It is great for urban fishers looking for a spot to wet a line.

    Hey there jonbob,
I too discovered Google Earth. I use it for everything. Even play with it looking up friends homes ,local ponds, golf courses etc.I use it instead of mapquest . And like you noted, the price is right.

    Hey Jonbob,

It's a great site, but make sure you
are not overlooking others that may help
you as well. For instance, the county I
live in has just added complete overhead
mapping of our county, in high resolution
aircraft photo mapping. You can even
overlay roads and such if you need to.
And you can enlarge it pixel free.*G*
There may be similar features in your
    area. Warm regards, Jim

Google Earth will not download into some computers that use older versions of Windows - such as mine.

In addition to what Mr Hatch recommends you might want to look at: [url=http://www.topozone.com/.:ea97d]http://www.topozone.com/.[/url:ea97d] I have found topozone site very useful for finding new fishing spots.

Google Earth is very handy. I used it a month or so ago to find some humps underwater in a local reservoir. Turns out, the picture they're using right now for that reservoir was taken just before our rainy season started (when the water level was at its lowest).

All sorts of features that are normally well underwater were revealed. This time of year, they're the perfect places to look for bass (those humps make good ambush spots plus it showed where the shallowest parts of the reservoir are because they were bone dry in the pic).

I scrolled around and took screen shots of several other reservoirs that were equally low (and thus revealing) for future fishing reference.
