Hans,
When counterwrapping any material, like you did with the wire here, do you take any special measures when tying it off to insure it stays tight to the body? I've had a few instances, especially with stuff like floss/Unistretch/Superfloss etc, where it's come somewhat undone and migrated to the rear of the bus; if I wrap the rib with the flow, no problems. Besides the obvious - more wraps (wasteful), wrap it down tighter (hard to quantify), don't counterwrap (the coward's way out, and I hate to be outwitted by inanimate objects, although it wouldn't be the first time), I'm wondering what works to anchor it in place.
Very nice fly, as always.
Regards,
Scott
Scott,
Way back when, I noticed the same movement of the counterwrapped material. I also wasn't happy with the look so I stopped using that technique. In fact I asked Hans about it just the other week. Try just to get rib on a slightly different angle then the material it's covering.
Maybe Hans will chime in. His thoughts are always worth reading.
Really like the look of that hook.
Allan
Scott,
I tie of my ribbing material the same way, no matter whether it is 'with' or 'against' the thread direction - and it is a secure tie-off with the minimum of thread securing wraps.
Rather than explain it in words I suggest you review a video of two on my Youtube channel. I think you will find it worth your while. Watch closely - it will be over in the blink of an eye
We can discuss further if needed once you have absorbed the technique.
Cheers,
Hans W

Hans, where can I find some Grip fly hooks?
LastChance,
For Grip hooks in the US, I woud start at Great Feathers and go from there. http://greatfeathers.com/hooks/index.aspx
Another of my favorites is Fly Tying Specialties http://www.flytyingspecialties.com
