    Hi All,

    I looked at some photos on the web, putting in the scientific name that Hans listed in his post above, for the search. The birds look very much like the photos of woodcock from here in the US.

    The birds look like the feather would be very good for soft hackles. I am not sure whether I have any woodcock feathers, but am thinking that I do have some. Now I have to go look!

    Gandolf, go out in the west Texas country side and ask one of the local country boys to help you catch a snipe. They are pretty much the same as a woodcock. Snipe like marshy areas, that may be a challenger for you around Borger.

    A west Texas snipe hunt will probably land you alone and without any tying materials! Hahaha
