Get on ebay and get a few Martin "tuna cans" of the 60 series. They are light and cheap and simple!

I have a couple of the Bass Pro Hobbs Creek reels and like them a lot. They have a new one

That is a little less expensive than the Hobbs Creek.

Another one that folks tend to ignore is the pre-lined reel at Walmart. I have one on a Eagle Claw Featherlite that I let the kids fish with and it does a bang up job. Less than $50 in the whole outfit!

"3 weight" and "can take a beating" are mutually exclusive in my experience....

on my 3 wt I have an Albright "Bugati" reel which was a great bargain- well made all around and not expensive. I don't think they are available any more.

Don't forget the Pfleuger series of reels. they are inexpensive classics and indestructable.

Another thing to remember is to make sure the reels are balanced with the rods. I've seen a mismatched rig just about wear out an adult in a half-day's fishing.

If it's not too late, the Prestige are on sale now for 30.
