    Default It's that time again

As high unemployment continues the salvation army is the last resort for more and more people. The kettles are out and to help get them filled I'll send this set of smallmouth flies to the first non-tyer who promises to put ten dollars in the kettle.

    rainbowchaser,

Very nice gesture! I'll remember it when I make a deposit into the kettle. I am a tier, so good luck with your campaign! Happy Thanksgiving BTW!

    Best regards, Dave S.

    Thumbs up

    Jim,
Great gesture for a deserving cause! I also tie, but urge everyone to help them out. I keep a change jar, but ALL my change through the Holidays goes to the Salvation Army. If I'm shopping, I may have to get change in the store so I can "deposit" it on the way out. Gives you a warm, fuzzy feeling, doesn't it?

Mark, I didn't know you you had musical talent. Those should sound as sweet going into the kettle as anything the windy city has heard since Louis Armstrong left.

    Jim,
More like since Bob Swan and his Viola left the CSO for the "rural" life In any case, I mentioned "I once had more of these" because when they were worth around $275 -$300 I did cause a "jingle" in the pot for a few years. It's a bit harder now that they're in the $1350 range. Nontheless, I still do my part. The Sal(ivat)ion Army, as a dear friend pronounced it, does good work in actually helping folks without the "PAY and pray" sermons. They are "boots on the ground" and I'm happy to help them.

Not to disparage the charitable organizations listed, this just illustrates the apportionment to salaries of CEO's in each of them. Granted, the numbers are a bit dated but nonetheless....................
As you open your pockets for yet another natural disaster or Christmas season, keep these facts in mind when "donating".

Marsha J. Evans, President and CEO of the American Red Cross... Salary for year ending 06/30/03 was $651,957 plus expenses. (That's $74.42 an hour for EVERY hour of EVERY day.)

Brian Gallagher, President of the United Way receives a $375,000 base salary, plus numerous expense benefits. (That's $42.80 an hour for EVERY hour of EVERY day.)

UNICEF CEO receives $1,200,000 per year plus all expenses and a ROLLS ROYCE car where ever he goes and only cents of your dollar goes to the cause. (That's $1369.86 an hour for EVERY hour of EVERY day.)

The Salvation Army's Commissioner Todd Bassett receives a salary of only $13,000 per year (plus housing) for managing this $2 billion dollar organization.

No further comment necessary except listen for the bells outside stores this Christmas. Please share this with everyone you can think of.

Went to the sound of a bell outside a local market only to find some gangsta looking dudes from a local "Rehab" imitating the Salvation Army Christmas kettle and bells. Sorry. I kept my change and kept walking.
I'm either going to, coming from or thinking about fishing. Jim
