Trouts don't live in ugly places.
A friend is not who knows you the longest, but the one who came and never left your side.
Don't look back, we ain't goin' that way.
so the rod makers have found another marketing ploy to sell more over priced stuff. sad day, sad day indeed.

I can't say about fly fishing but there's a lot of feed lots in Kansas.

When we were in Frisco Colorado this summer we had to stop at WalMart, of all places, and I naturally wandered through the fishing section. Low and behold they had an Eagle Claw yellow fiberglass 7' 5wt fly rod there for only $19.95. What a bargin, I should have bought 2. I haven't had the chance to try it on trout yet, maybe some time in October, but it has been fun on local bluegills and bass and catfish so far. Not too difficult to cast, but much different than any other fly rod I have. Maybe there is something to this fiberglass stuff.

Not if you are employed by the manufacturer, a fly shop or anywhere where tackle is sold. Even if "overpriced stuff" isn't everyone's cup of tea, without it and the people who buy it, all of those beloved fly shops would close along with more than a few manufacturers.

I don't think that Cabela's selling glass rods is that unusual
As I remember they were one of the last or maybe even toward the end, the exclusive sellers of those short FenGlass rods
What was that, maybe 8-10 years ago ?
They'll list those new CGR rods for a couple of years and when they don't sell a ton of them, then close them out at half price..

It's not half price but I think that's because they did sell a ton of them. I've got the 7' 4-5 wt and it's the sweetest rod I've ever cast. The only down side is the real seat, uplocking would have been nice.
I have both, the Cabela's Glass AND I just won a Scott F2...Life is gooooood.
I just won a Grizzly on Ebay and awaiting it as we speak. For the longest time have been playing with fiberglass and love some of the Fenwick as well as other rods. Haven't picked up any of the newer ones preferring to find those produced at the peak of the rod makers fiberglass and ferrule technology years back.

The older fiberglass is sweet. Like holding history. I bought a nice Browning off ebay, but the cork split right in the middle. Have no idea how to get it off unless I strip all the guides as the seat isn't going anywhere. Might have to look into that some day. This new glass is like a feather and I like that a lot.
