USA's Cuban Embargo has gone on for too long, mostly the fault of our National Leaders of both Political Parties. For those who were not yet born, back in September of 1962, the Soviet Union (USSR) started building launching site in Cuba for the USSR's short range and medium range ballistic nuclear missiles. This was in response to the the USA and their NATO Allies, installing Thor ballistic nuclear missile system in Great Britain, and the Jupiter ballistic nuclear missile system in Italy and Turkey.

Then Soviet Primer Nikita Khrushchev, thought that then President John F. Kennedy would back down once the missiles were installed and operational in Cuba, and through diplomatic channels, both sides would remove their missiles from Europe/Asia & Cuba. There was also the facts that later came out the the USA had attempted many assasination plots against Fidiel Castro.

A month before the USA discovered that installation of Soviet ballitic nuclear missles system in Cuba, President Kennedy witnessed the first lauching of a Polaris Intercontenental nuclear missile from the nuclear submarine USS Washington.

It was a scary time in the USA for the citizen population and the rest of the world), when President Kennedy made a television telecast to the Nation, about the threat of nuclear annihilation of the most of the Eastern United States.

An embargo was instuited, by the US Navy around Cuba, to prohibit any soviet vessels from reaching Cuba. Reconnesence flights where flown over Cuba to get updates on the progress of the Russian Soldiers building the lauching sites (1 American U-2 was shot down over Cuba).

US Military units were mobilized and sent to Florida to prepare for the upcoming amphibious invasion of Cuba. The Navy and Air Force prepared their fighter and bomber wings for the upcoming invasion.

This is the only time that the United States ever went to Death Con 2.

I was only 13 years old at the time, my father a Army Commisioned Officer was in Florida preparing for the upcoming amphibious invasion, my mother and two brothers were living with her mother in St. Paul, and when I went to bed at night I did not know if there would be a tommorow. Not knowing if I would ever see my father again!

That is why there is still an embargo preventing US Citizen from going to Cuba. All other nations, including our NATO allies allow their citizens to travel to Cuba on vacation. The USSR is dead (and I hope it never reappears again) It is now 48 years later, and it is time to cease this ban on travel to Cuba by American Citizens! It is time for the USA to move on...to new problems, and bury the past Cuban Missle Crisis once and for all times!

Could it be that the author is a extremist who might contend that if we Americanc were set back a century or so in a less modern society we would have better fishing here? This is the way some of these folks think.

I say the quickest way to get the caban govorment to loosen up is to remove the embargo it one of them policy that has out live why it was put in place and does more harm for the commen man there then any one else, with the right to travel they normal populas would see what the real commen man is like not what there goverment say we are like bring change fast, like china it is changing not as fast as some but think back just 20 year ago what chania was like compared to now.
