Thread: A 3-wt, a popper, and a calm sand pit

Default A 3-wt, a popper, and a calm sand pit

Went out to a buddy's lease tonight to see if we could give some fish free lip piercings. Rodgerole sent me some poppers and jelly beans here awhile back, and I hadn't had a good place to try them out, so tonight was their maiden voyage.
When we got there, it was flat calm... Gorgeous! I rigged up the 3-weight and tied on a yellow and red popper of Rodger's. POW! A nice 8" bluegill x green sunfish hybrid. The water here is very clear, so after one or two fish standing in one place, I'd have to move. About the third or fourth spot, I hooked into this dude...

Ended up hooking up with numerous hybrids, a few gills, and two bass about the same size as the one pictured. I think rodgerole's poppers worked fantastically! I just had to hop on here and brag on his great ties. Hope I didn't bore ya to death!

Hey Zac it is amazing how your camera skills can make that bass look like something Bill Dance catches!! (ha ha) I gues I have got to give it to you. Good job on a 3 wt. That is bigger that anything I have seen Steve pull up on a 3wt. I know Iam trouble now. Hey Steve "Go Tigers".

Larry, I'd guess him at 2 or 2.5 pounds. Nothing earth-shattering, but a pretty fun fish on that rod!

Very nice. I would be happy to go 2.5lb on a 5wt.
