Smile Gift booklet from 5th. graders in the Trout in the Classroom program via Photobucket

Mentored the Troutville Elementary school 5th. grade class in (how about this!) Troutville, VA this year for our T.U. Chapter #308 2nd. year sponsoring the "Trout in the Classroom" program. The kids were delightful to work with and they in turn mentor the kindergarten class at the school. The 5th. grade kids keep journals and share them with the kindergarten classes. This was the first year for the program at the school and just about everyone got involved. E-mailed their teacher and said I was sorry but wouldn't be able to visit the school before they let out for summer vacation and wanted to tell the kids how much I enjoyed their enthusiam and energy. He said they had prepared a gift for me and he would mail it. The below Photobucket link will take you through the gift that I received. As the TV commercial says at the end - PRICELESS!

    Thumbs up

Hats off to you & hats off to those children. What you gave certainly was repaid in value much greater than the "almighty buck".
Your gift & theirs obviously came from the heart.
    God Bless you all,
    Mike

Thanks for the kind words from the FAOL family. The Photobucket site has had 159 hits on the album so "Tommy Trout" is really getting around. E-mailed the teacher and kids and told them of the progress so far. Reminds me of the "Flat Stanley" project I did for my grandson a few years back. Looking forward to working with the 5th. graders again next year. It's a small school with only kindergarten through 5th. grade so just about everybody in the school got involved this year. The kids charted everything involved with the trout and even argued over which class got to do the water changes, checked PH and fed the fish. If you have a chance to get involved in this program I promise you won't be sorry. The kids tank was decorated by an art teacher at school and they cut out the brook, rainbow and brown trout images and put the black construction paper over the holes so they could view the eggs after they hatched.
