I can't seem to find much info on the history of Scott. I am particularly interested in what year they moved their production from San Fran to Montrose ?

in 1994 Scott rod production was moved from Berkely, California to Montrose, Colorado.
see page 73 in "Fiberglass Fly Rods" by Victor R. Johnson and Victor R. Johnson, Jr.
My seester did a story on them not long after they showed up in this country. You could always call her and have her dig it out.
Wasn't Scott up in Telluride, tho?
their corporate office is in Telluride.
Interesting that Ross Reels is also in Montrose.
Montrose is a great small CO town with easy access to some great fishing.
I was there last spring to visit my best friend.
Small town (pop of 15K) with everything you need.
It's nice to see that Scott and Ross made the decision to locate there, smart. Helps with employment in a small comunity and keeps them close to great fishing.
I was gonna say they saved a TON of money being located in Montrose but then I saw their headquarters are in Telluride?
I've been to Telluride( a few times) and let me tell you those are some of the most hateful people I have ever met in my entire life...sorry.
Montrose, Gunnison and Ouray are nice towns however. Even in Crested Butte the people are pretty nice. I avoid Telluride at all cost any more.

Good fishing technique trumps all.....wish I had it.
That's why I live here!
It doesn't hurt to have the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park with trophy fishing just outside "city" limits. And I can harass trout in town on the Uncompahgre River, which is within walking distance from my house.
Although I'm a little embarrassed to say that I don't own a single Scott rod or Ross reel. I fell in love with Winston rods and Hardy reels before I moved here, so that's my excuse.
Scott and Ross both give factory tours, so check them out on your way to the Ouray Hot Springs or skiing at Telluride.
If anyone drives through, check out the local fly shop, Cimarron Creek, for fishing advice and tackle.
I only ever had one Orvis rod before I moved to New Mexico and the Scott rod I bought here is working great for me.
It is the A3 Performance Value Series 8' 4wt.
I just wanted to say that...
The sport is so royal that there is neither gentle nor villein, if it knew of it and loved it well, who would not be more honoured for that reason by all who understand it.
