    Squeeze juice from a bottle of Jack Daniels into a glass, add ice and/or cola to taste.

    This is my dear old Granny's Recipe handed down in our family through the ages.

    CHRISTMAS CAKE RECIPE
    You'll need the following:
    1 cup of water
    1 cup of sugar
    4 large brown eggs
    2 cups of dried fruit
    1 teaspoon of salt
    1 cup of brown sugar
    Lemon juice
    Nuts
    1 bottle of whisky
    Sample the whisky to check for quality. Take a large bowl. Check the
    whisky again. To be sure it's the
    highest quality, pour one level cup and drink. Repeat. Turn on the
    electric mixer, beat one cup of butter
    in a large fluffy bowl. Add one teaspoon of sugar and beat again.
    Make sure the whisky is still OK.
    Cry another tup. Tune up the mixer. Beat two leggs and add to the
    bowl and chuck in the cup of dried
    fruit. Mix on the turner. If the fired druit gets stuck in the
    beaterers, pry it goose with a drewscriver.
    Sample the whisky to check for tonsisticity. Next, sift two cups of
    salt. Or something. Who cares?
    Check the whisky. Now sift the lemon juice and strain your nuts.
    Add one tablespoon of the sugar or something. Whatever you can find.
    Grease the oven.
    Turn the cake tin to 350 degrees.
    Don't forget to beat off the turner.
    Throw the bowl out of the window. Check
    the whisky again and go to bed.

    Candy Yams
    5-6 lb yams skinded and cut into 1-2 inch cubes.
    brown lightly in dutch oven on stove med high uncovered
    add 2 full bags dark brown suger over top no need to stirr.
    cover and place in oven for 1 hour at 350
    it will make its own juice
    serve hot with REAL butter
    no more that a 1000 cal. per serving

    Squirrel Nuggets

    ~ squirrels, amount depends how hungry you are
    ~ 1 large onion, chopped
    ~ couple stalks celery, chopped
    ~ 1 - 2 carrots, chopped
    ~ peppercorns
    ~ water, beer or chicken stock
    ~ flour
    ~ paprika
    ~ beer

    Clean and quarter squirrels. Add to a large soup pot. Cover with water, beer or chicken stock.

    Add the onion, celery, carrots and peppercorns to taste.

    Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer until meat is tender.

    Remove meat from pot and cool. Remove bones. Keep the meat in nugget size pieces.

    In a bowl, mix some flour and beer together to a "gravy consistency". Season to taste with paprika.

    Dip the nuggets into the batter and deep fry to a golden brown.

    Serve with ketchup, ranch dressing or homemade plum jam for dipping.

    Enjoy.

    Candied Yams
    Hey Rich, my family mashes the cooked Yams with butter, nutmeg and butter.
    Stirs in Pineapple bits and tops with mini marshmellows and back in the oven to brown.
    Like icing on the cake....Mmmmmmm
    Almost like desert.

    P.S. (someone has to ask) How many squirrels do you need to get enough "nuggets"

    It depends quite a bit on whether you're talking those scrawny eastern squirrels, or hefty, "throw a saddle on 'em" westerners. Btw, you can substitute marmots, works out at 2:1

    Boilo - The Traditional Yuletide drink of the Northeast PA Coal Region

    Boilo is traditionally made during the Christmas and New Year's holiday. It's great on those cold winter nights. Cheers!
    • *2 oranges (med-large size)

      *2 lemons

      *1 small box raisins (about 1 1/2 ounces)

      *8 oz honey

      *12 oz 80 proof whiskey (or more, to taste). Use blended whiskey like Four Roses, or Seagram?s 7

      *1/2 to 1 teaspoon each of any or all of these spices: cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, caraway seed, anise seed
    Make this in a crock pot. It's easier than cooking on the stove and much less likely to overcook or scorch. For the quantities shown here, a small (1.5 quart) crock pot will do.

    Peel the oranges and lemons. Cut up the fruit and squeeze them into the crock pot. A garlic press works, or you can use some kind of juicer or fruit squeezer if you have one. Put the remaining fruit pulp into the crock pot as well.

    Add the raisins, honey, and spices. Stir.

    NOTE: do not add whiskey yet!

    Start the crock pot and let the mixture cook for about 2-4 hours. Stir occasionally. It's done when the fruit pulp gets "cooked-down".

    Strain into a pitcher. Mash down the fruit in the strainer to get all the liquid. NOW add the whiskey to the pitcher and stir. If you cook the whiskey, even for a short time, the alcohol will start to evaporate (and who wants that to happen??). Taste, and add more whiskey to your liking.

    Serve hot in shot glasses, espresso cups, or coffee mugs. After the first round, each individual serving can be heated in the microwave. This recipe makes about 12 ounces of "virgin" boilo. Add 12 ounces of whiskey to this and you get 24 ounces of coal region nectar, enough for 12-18 servings.

    Takes 5 minutes to make and is the most incredible pie you've ever tried.

    Warp Drive Chocolate Pie

    12 oz bag of semi-sweet chocolate chips
    5 egg yolks (no whites)
    1 teaspoon vanilla
    3 tablespoons brandy or other liquor (try Gran Marnier or Kaluha)
    1 1/2 cups heavy cream
    1 Graham cracker or Oreo Cookie pie crust - 8"

    Put first 4 ingredients in a blender. Blend on low 1 minute. Heat the 1
    1/2 cups heavy cream just to boiling. Pour into blender. Blend on high for
    1 minute. Pour into crust. Chill for at least 3 hours uncovered in the
    refrigerator.
    The hot cream melts the chocolate and cooks the eggs. This recipe is VERY
    rich. The slices should be about 1" wide. Can't eat much more than that.
    Try drizzling with a raspberry sauce right before serving. I gave this
    recipe to a friend of mine in the UK. He served it to several members of
    the House of Lords. He said it was the first time any of them commented on
    anything he'd ever served them.
