Thread: Fiddelstix...

    Default Fiddelstix...

My Royal Wollf turned out more like a...a...
    Royal woof.

Oh well, try again. Hey, I don't mind.
    I needed the practice anyway....
Boy, do I ever need the practice!

fwiw that's not a particularly easy pattern to tie.
    stick w/ it.
sit down and tie it over and over again until you get it right. that's really the only path to success I know of.

    good luck.

I've got to get the right stuff.
I'm sorely lacking in that, and tried to use what I do have.
Did I invent a new fly? A Royal Woof?
I tied it on a huge (for me) hook. A #10!
It was fun to try. Back to mosquitoes.
    I suck!

The first fish would have messed it up anyway, and by the fiftieth... I once fished a brookie stream and caught fish until the last viable part of the fly, the wings, fell off.

Sorry, Sonny, but I already tied the "Royal Woofs", over 30 years ago, when I first started tying. Thankfully, as already suggested, above, I kept at it, kept practicing until now........................30+ years and countless Royals later, I'm now capable of tying (with EASE, I might add!), "The Royal What's THAT THING?", "The Royal Quit Laughing At My Tying,Please!" and my real secret weapon-fish getter............."The Royal Take Up Golf & Quit Tying"!
Just keep at it! The FUN is in the "trying"!

I'm w/Dennis... Throw it at a fish in a riffle and watch the fireworks! The rest comes with time and relaxation. Don't pressure yourself.

I've been told that if you take the hair ball a cat hawked up and tie it on a hook, it would catch fish. Personally, I haven't tried that. YET!

OK. I'll take it along and try it.
Maybe I can catch a tree and not be embarrassed. How's that for a plan?
Nope, no pressure here. Like I tell them at work, you've obviously mistaken me for somebody that gives a damn.
Tyin is as much fun as fishin, to me. (And the beer in the fridge is closer, too.)
Thank you, gentlemen. I do appreciate the encouragement!
