The first bamboo rod I ever fished was also the first bamboo rod I ever made. From that day on, I never trout fished with anything but bamboo. I still enjoy throwing a graphite cannon in the saltwater, but everything I need to do when trout fishing can be done as well, or better with cane. At the very least, FOR ME, bamboo is just prettier, more traditional, more personal, and simply more fun.

Thanks Fly Goddess, hope you make it down for a class sometime.

From all the replies and photos, I can see that the bamboo folks have an "extra" dose of passion. If you can, send me some photos of rods you've wound yourself for me to check out. Thanks in advance.

Fresh from today, the nicest fish so far I've caught on my first bamboo rod, a Norling 8' 5wt hollowbuilt.
