Question Can anyone tell me what this is?

Can anyone tell me what the piece of equipment in the attached photo is and for what it is used?
I appreciate any help you may offer.
    Thanks

    Rod winder.
Mounts on table like a tying vice. Spool of thread goes on the upper silver bar, tension adjusted with thumb screw and spring. Rod lays in wire cradle.

Wow, thanks for the very quick information.
It's nice to know what this is. Now to find someone who can use it.
    Thanks again.

    Default Rod winder...

Hello NBink, welcome to the best fly fishing site of it's kind on the planet....

Does, 'find someone that can use it' mean that you want to sell it? If so, I'm interested !

    Cheers,

If what "memory" I still have, serves me correctly, that old rod wrapping tool was made by the Thompson Vice Company. The same fine folks that made the famous "Thompson A" vice, (that anyone that's tied for more than 19.3 years, also learned to tie their first flies on), and assorted accessories.

That's a new one on me. I thought it was something that my wife would not allow me to discuss in mixed company. Now for a video of how it works.

Paul aka flybinder you are correct. They were a neat little tool in their day. Fact of the matter I think I gave one away to someone on here about a year ago. I remember shipping it out just don't remember if I sold it or gave it away. Old timers setting in.

    Paul,
Wrapping a rod is not difficult, I did a good few
times by hand, without a useful tool like that.
Hold on to it for a while, you will not get much for
it if you sell. If you can get a copy of the instructions
you should be able to build yourself a very nice fly rod.

Try the cane rod BB here.
