Somembody told me just in passing about a killer midge pattern tied with "clear olive thread". Does anybody know what this product might be? Or if it is just mono on a spool, and if so, where I could find the olive?

If all else fails, some 2# Maxima in green. Never heard of clear olive thread, but I don't get out much. Especially when it is snowing this hard. Sigh.

Yes, it's snowing, but we'll appreciate it next summer, right? Course, last summer snuck in about 2 weeks of good fishing between the end of runoff and the first freeze. Too much of a good thing.
how about the guy that told you about the midge? does he know what its tied with?

Berkley mono in green is a clear olive color. Don't know if that is what you are looking for or not.

This may also work for you ..... lay down a thread base on you hook and cover with clear mono. Another option would be to lay down thread base ( color of your choice) and then wrap stretch magic (.5mm) over the top of it. For most of my midge patterns I use olive biots. Send me a SASE and I'll send you a few if you want to try them out.
To answer your questions about the clear olive thread .... I've not seen any and do not know where to get any. If you find some please let us know where you've acquired it.
Thanks.

I am wondering if the fellow was talking about silk thread ?? When waxed, it has a translucent quality which may be what he meant by "clear."
Here is a link to a recent thread on the subject of silk thread.

The fish are always right.
Roman Moser offers a GSP thread in olive that is pretty darned translucent, not to mention obscenely difficult to break despite it's size. Hille's in Williamsport Pa distributes RM stuff.....
Thanks for all the replies, will try them all.
