This Week's FOTW

This week's FOTW really looks like a GREAT tie. I definitely want to add a few of these articulated ties to my flybox. Thanks to Ron Stevens for the contribution! I can see a smallie or two going for these big time!

There are a number of ways to connect the rear and forward parts of articulated flies.

What is your favorite way ....why?

Anyone have a way they have found not to work well?

Just a bit curious...is there any difficulty in casting this type of fly?

Well duck,,, ya. I hate the things almost as much as long shank streamers. They cast like bombs. Oh ya, you can trick out your leader and such, but they still are just too big for me.

I tie several patterns like the FOTW, however that one is a work of art for sure.
But I also tie Bunny streamer. I tie the STINGER hook on some tippet, and then attach a needle and thread it through two Zonker strips.

JC is right in that they are hard to cast, but I manage.

ducksterman; I'll use wire or mono, you can lengthen the connection and put beads on for color flash and weight or like Fly Goddess showed secure the connection to a zonker strip.

J C; they are harder to cast. some where I heard to make sure your back cast straightens all the way out. Might have been in Kelly Galloup's book.

They are big. Big = more fur/feathers = absorb more water = heavier = harder to cast.
