    Thumbs up Another Tiger Eye

Always looking for an excuse to add another rod to my personal collection and needed an 8 footer. I love these blanks.

What kind of wood is in that reel seat? Very nice!! <cruel, but nice!!>
Trouts don't live in ugly places.

Betty, the insert is called......Dragon Wood

As for the wraps, I used scarlet thread with no color preserver (which almost dissapear into the blank the color match is so good) and 4 turn silver metallic trim bands. When I get a chance I'll see if I can get a close up .......my camera is tuff with close-ups .......but I'll try.

Here the best shot I could get with my cheap camera showing the wood and trim rings

    Nice rod.

I'm not much a rod builder but I had a fellow build up a rod for my son using a tiger eye blank. It's really nice with a smooth medium action. My boy loves it and old dad has been known to borrow it from time to time when the son was not looking.

I had the same scarlet thread with silver wraps used on Daniel's rod as you used on yours.

You have a fine looking rod there.

VERY nicely done. I might just be forced to build one of those this winter.

    Smernsky -

    Very nice rod.

My next build will probably be the 9' version of the one you're showing here. Will have to give some thought to the scarlet thread, without the trim bands. Really would like to see the threads just melt into the blank.

P.S. Do you know a fellow who goes by Steelheader on www.rodbuildingforum.com ?? He seems to be as big on Tiger Eye blanks as you are, and as I might be if the 9' for 5 wt is as nice a rod as the 6' small stream rod I built on a Tiger Eye.
    The fish are always right.

That's Steeldrifter (Steve Clark), and here's his website: http://www.midwestcustomflyrods.com/index.htm

I had him build a rod for my nephew (Matrix, not Tiger Eye. Sorry). It came out great. He carries some blanks and components. You might want to get in touch with him. He's a great guy and I know he'll help you out any way he can.

Nice build, Smernsky. I may have to pick up one of those Tiger Eye blanks myself.

I am familiar with Steve , his homepage and the forum, as I am also a member. You'll find that the TE's are gaining great popularity there and elsewhere by many builders.

Also in your future considerations John , you need to be aware that the TE's have a larger butt diameter in the 9ft lengths (read stronger)than a lot of other blanks. Hence, be informed that the I.D. of whatever your real seat considerations might be make sure it will accept the larger O.D. of those blanks. Just a heads up........

    Good luck and happy building..........Ed
