Three successful trips this week -- despite less than desirable conditions.
Saturday, Doug Kabush of Virginia, a very accomplished fly angler, fished with me. The surf was up, the water was somewhat stirred up and snook numbers were down.
Doug hooked two fish and landed one. He had a few other shots.
Sunday, Bob McCain of Indiana joined me for a morning of beach snooking. Things can and often do change in a day. The numbers were up considerably. Bob had a lot of shots at snook. He hooked several and landed two up to 24 inches.
Most of the fish were on the surface. However, Bob found one snook within a foot of the beach, led it perfectly and hooked up immediately.
We have some sort of weather system to the west that is kicking the Gulf up. There are some rollers that are breaking right on the beach and stirring the water up, causing poor visiability. When that system moves past, I anticipate some really hot snook action.
This was Bob's first saltwater fly fishing trip and he did really well.
