Wifey got me a yak for fathers day.
It's about 10' long yellow Blast model.
My question --is this a usable fishin boat?
How to attach rod to boat?

And the life vest? You get that too? We want you around here, and for your family, for a long, long time, so if you don't have a new one to go with your beautiful yellow yak, get one, AND USE IT!!!!
Trouts don't live in ugly places.
A friend is not who knows you the longest, but the one who came and never left your side.
Don't look back, we ain't goin' that way.
I use a small 10' kayak for the twisty rivers around Northwest Arkansas. They are very manuverable and work great for fishing. You can mount a rod holder easily, which I have done but I often just lay the pole over one leg and under the other - sticking out the side when trolling. Normally I'm just drifting and casting. Have fun!
Scotty makes a variety of mounts for rod holders that work fine on kayaks. Depends a bit on what you like (and where on the yak you want the rod holder).
I usually have one behind where I sit to hold my rod while I'm moving from place to place or to hold a second rod (you can mount more than one rod holder).
Very easy to mount.
Ya might need one of these too!

Hi Bruce - Glad you got a boat. I was a little worried when I read the title of your post - thought you'd be cooking up some exotic new kind of meat for next year's Fish-In! If you feel like driving down this way, the place where I work does an introductory class in kayaking for $15. You get all the equipment supplied to you (including a 'YAK), and they'll teach you the basics in a few hours. That's a whole lot better than becoming a "human keel" on your first trip! Lemme know if you're interested, and I'll go through the class with you....Ed
P.S. - I'm buyin' on this offer - gotta take good care of the cooks!

Just don't pick a Sunday, as I teach the fly casting that day........Ed
P.S. Sorry - it doesn't actually tell where they shuttle you to - it is held at Lake Nockamixon (about a half hour ride away in an air conditioned van).

I've fished from a Blast model for years. I never used a rod holder. I just set the butt in the bottom and braced it against the edge of the cockpit.
I just sold my Blast, because my wife got me a 16' Mad River Adventure Yak for Fathers Day. Now we can both go out.
