    recipes for my flies

    Foam spider---

cut shape out of foam sheet--super glue legs on 1/2---poke 2x hook thru middle---fold and super glue to hook and squeeze together (careful not to glue fingers) start thread at eye and tie end of foam move inward to form a head and whip finish there with fingers

1 bunch of deer hair cricket

start thread at midpoint on 2x long hook (10 or 12)---cut a small bunch of deer hair (black and purple work best for me) dont stack---tie the butt ends and dont clip the overhang (legs)---pull the hair back and spiral wind to the bend and put an extra turn there--- bring the hair forward and spiral wind the thread to the eye put an extra turn of thread at the eye and spiral the thread to the start---pull the hair back to form the head and the wing and put a turn or 2 over that and whip finish with your fingers there---

try to balance the the length of hair vs the length of body vs the length of hook and the bunch of hair and how tightly you pull on the thread so it wont turn on the hook in later stages---i dont glue anything ---i just tie a box of a hundred at one sitting while watching a movie ---at full speed they take about a minute to tie---fish them dry til they sink---they work better just under the surface pushing a little water--- after 20 or so gills they start to get beat up but they still will catch fish

I hope I am not holding everything up on this one work keeps sending me out of town. At least this time I had 2 days notice and packed my tying kit. All soft hackles are tied and the foam beetles will be done in a day or two then off to the post office. I am sure they will be in on time.
