It is VERY important on this one. We are down to our last 2 weeks before the deadline. If you are not going to make this one, let me know ASAP. We can still get flies tied so everyone who completes this one will get a full set.

Blue: The "Usuals" are on their way.

    Default The Usual

The usual is an interesting fly. It was developed by noted Adirondack fisherman and guide; Fran Betters. Some say it is the predecessor of the modern Comparadun. It consists of only two materials; orange thread and the hair from the foot of a Snowshoe rabbit. When wet, the body "bleeds" the orange color from the thread, many believe this is what makes the fly so effective. Developed as a trout fly for the Ausable River, it is equally effective on pan fish. It can be fished either dry, in the flim or subsurface and is a reasonable imitation for most Mayflies. If you tie this pattern be sure and try to get an authentic showshow rabbit foot and not one of the commercial variety that you find on key chains. Snowshoe rabbits are creatures of the North country. The fur on their feet is loaded with lanolin so that the snow does not stick to their feet and allows them to travel across the deep snow without sinking in. Predators are unable to manuver at the same speed and usually lose the race. The same lanolin makes flies tied with this fur to float like corks. I hope you all enjoy you usuals.
