Soft Hackle,
Same here, I like using it. However, you probably nailed it, "Traditional".

Hi Ron, Rookie,
Can't argue with that. I also use silk for the bodies of Soft-hackles. There's nothing like the beauty of it.
Gudebrod--Gudbrod and more-------Guess I'll have to try something different in the future now that they stopped making tying thread. They cleaned out their warehouse and sent it to the Boy Scouts. As far as silk goes I still have some from 70 years ago when that was all we had but never use the stuff. The fish dont look for traditional tied flies------- BILL
Hi Ghost,
Gretchen and I use all Danville products mostly waxed but we do used unwax black or white 6/0 thread when we tie full dress salmon flies. Our favorite is a fairly new product called Nylon Stretch which is a single strand floss that never gets "twists" in it; the bodies we make with it (using a bobbin) are very fast to tie and incredibly smooth. Take care & ...

I've used almost all makes and deniers of threads and prefer the 'flat' types like Gudebrod, Danville, or UTC when dubbing isn't involved. If the fly calls for dubbing I'll either spin those threads or switch to Uni. If I'm tying anything smaller then 26 I might switch to the tiniest thread (don't recall man.) or use Gudebrod 10/0.

Ghost,
I use alot of Danville's - 3/0 for size 12 and larger; 6/0 for 14 thru 20. Gudebrod 8/0 and 10/0 for small stuff. Pearsal's silk and UTC for soft hackles.
Good fishing,
Arnie
Deezel,
Have you tried splitting the thread with a bodkin to make a dubbing loop? I use that a lot with Danville 6/0, works very well.

UNI 6/0, and 8/0, Danville 3/0, UTC GSP, and Pearsalls Gossamer Silk.
