    Default "No-Fish Porn, No Osprey,Just a River!

Since it was a total skunk, today, I couldn't post this under "Fishing Reports" I figured! But, after Eric's beautiful pictures on his, personal stomping grounds, thought I'd at least post the pictures of a great day on the water anyway.
The pictures are of a local coastal river, "The Kilches". It falls for only 14 miles, from a spring high in the Oregon Coast Range Mountains, before it empties into the Pacific. It's well known, (locally!), as "a great river for Sea Run Cutthroats, Rainbows and Steelhead".
Even though a day of "long line releases", it was great to be out after we got snow, only the day before!

    "Working pocket water"

Known locally, as "The Hole", one of the better Steelhead and Sea Run lies..

If you look, closely, the size of this pool can be seen by locating me, to the left of the picture, as the river bends 90 degrees before forming this pool,

Truly beautiful scenery. It's hard to believe it snowed the day before. I guess it's a sign good weather is on the way, and none too soon.

    Paul -

That is some great looking water you're on. Nice pics.

I may have to think about a visit to Oregon some time this summer, if I can find a local who knows his way around ??

    John

    P. S. I should be hearing from my son this weekend regarding his Utah / Nevada plans. Then we can get an idea of what will work on your trip with Sam to Mish-gin.

    Paul,
Beautiful looking water. Surroundings such as those can make a "fishless" day a lot more bearable.
    Thanks for posting.

    Thanks, everyone!
The Kilchis is one of my favorite coastal streams. One, because except for days like today ,(when all the fish were on Spring Break), it's very well producing fishery.
Two, because nearly all of the last 7 miles of it are bordered by private land so...if you want to fish at all, you have to drive to the county park, then walk about a mile, upstream, and re-enter the river to fish it.
Because there are two......."More written about, bigger and easier access rivers", like it, one two miles north and one four miles south of the Kilchis, fishermen ignore this little river almost entirely. I fished this river, 14 times, last season and except for the people I went with, I never saw another person on any of those 14 trips! (And, that's after fishing about 4 miles of river).
I guess because you must walk a mile, on a well defined, easy walking trail through beautiful woods before entering the river again, it's maybe too much effort for those that prefer to pack it's neighbors to the north and south!!??!! (NO complaints from here, on that!).

    JohnScott;
All you'll need to do, is to drive on over here and the rest will be taken care of. You KNOW you're more than welcome and we have a spare bed as well. The vittles aren't fancy, but if you leave the table hungry it's all your fault! Just give me a little notice ahead of time, so I can shoo the dogs off the guest bed and make sure there's a new catalog "out back". (We always, cut out them pesky "shiny/slick pictures" ahead of time, too!).
If we can't hook up on The Kilchis, we can be on the Nestuca River in about 30 minutes, or, The Trask or The Tillamook, in 45. In an hour, we can choose from 2 more rivers, if we're forced to.
Be sure to pack a 7 or 8wt. and we'll also spend a bit of time catching Sea Perch or, Rock Cod if you'd like to give that, a go too!?! I've got the reels and lines, for salt already, so don't worry about your own reels and the saltwater.
The fishing on all of these rivers, begins to get good about the 3rd. week of June and last until late October.
If you'd prefer "lakes to rivers", there's 11 of those within 7 miles of the house, plus many more, up and down the coast.
Let me know, when you're free to come over!

    Paul -

Just so happens I have a Sage SLT 9' for 7 wt coming in the mail, along with a Lamson R3 reel and a WF7F line. Will get to try it out next week to be sure I like it. From everything I've heard and read about the SLT, it sounds like it should be just about perfect for my casting style - if not, back it goes and I'll be looking for another piece of heavier artillery ( compared to the 3 and 5 wts I usually fish ).

    Thumbs up

A great looking bit of water FB. Just the kind that I love too. And that walk..I'd also appreciate the fact that it's there, for obvious reasons!

Nice water. I'd much rather fish that than a large river w/people all over. Peaceful!!

    Paul,

"Fish or no fish" I just wish I could have been there with you. The surroundings and the peace and quiet that I see in the pictures is one of the reasons for my fly fishing. Take care my friend and keep on fishing and sending pictures.

PS - I need you to send me your home address if you don't mind. Just PM me. Thanks
    Warren

Address, sent Warren via your PM box.
Actually, the Kilchis, IS every bit as "quiet as it appears" in the pictures. It's first seven miles runs through the bottom of a very steep canyon. The only way into and out of, the river itself is to wade along the shore or, wade and fish your way up stream!
