Power Wrapper??
Got thinking tonight about a power wrapper....There's a decent wrapper in Cabelas for $40, I'm curious if any of you have added power...such as a Drill or something? Maybe on a dimmer? It would sure make life a lot easier, for me anyways.
If any of you have, or at least know of a site that could help me use a drill to add onto this hand wrapper it would be awesome!!!!!
Especially since most of you have seen my homemade fly vice hahaha. I don't want to attempt THIS on me own
Can't see a need for a power wrapper unless you're building commercially. Hand wrapping is part of the enjoyment of rod building for me.

Once again, I agree with Joe. I don't see a need for a power wrapper unless you are building lots of large diameter salt water stuff. My wife surprised me with a Sully one year, and it is a great little wrapper. I'd rather use it than a power wrapper any day. The cabelas basic wrapper looks just fine. I wrapped a lot of rods with a homemade equivalent.

I had to purchase a power wrapper when I first got into the hobby. I found it useful for building large ocean rods, Tuna sticks and the like but truth is when it came to fresh water spinning or fly rods the hand wrapping is the way to go.
With the smaller thread and more detailed wraps the hands just work better. The size "C" thread and larger do work well with the power wrapper but hand wrapping was just provided a much better outcome.
I believe the power wrapper is still in my closet somewhere. Haven't used it in many years.

I have to agree with everyone else on this matter. I bought a power wrapper and have only used it on larger saltwater rods. Hand turning is the only way to go. Power has been in my closet for a long time. Save your money for something else.
My wrapping setup is a cup that the thread spool sits in so it doesn't roll away. For thread tension I use two heavy books. Thats it. Worked fine for me. Like Joe said, a power wrapper would be fine if you were a commercial builder, but for the hobby builders, you don't really need much equipment. The money you save by not buying all the gadgets can be put toward blanks and components. Just my opinion.
