I'm reading a book by Charles Meck in which he uses a dry fly called Patriot. He uses it as an indicator with a beaded nymph and as no hatch fly and claims to have good results with it. Cant find it online.

It's a very popular fly on the Au Sable river (MI) in July, size 14 - 16.
Excellent pattern, fish it often on in MI.
Actually I think that the parachute patriot is even more popular on the Au Sable. It has become a dry fly of choice for me as a brightly colored attractor. I have had good luck with it and I posted the recipe a while back. I've used the parachute version from size 10 down to down to size 18.

Hi Donat
I have and do fish the patriot often and have good results with this fly here in CT. For me I like to fish the patriot when I am in good rainbow water.

I know it's touted as being very effective on rainbows, but I've found that browns like it a lot, too. Here's a neat variation, something that may be better suited to rough water:

Think I'm going to tie some up tonight and take them on a test drive.

Thanks for all the info. I've got to tie a dozen for a fourth of july flyswap.
See you on the trail, Grunt
It has been a great prospecting fly for me, this version from Montana Fly Company floats really well and is easy to see.
