Yes, no problem. Scrape the hide thoroughly clean, and use a strong borax solution to wipe it clean. then just hang it and dry thoroughly in your garage or whatever. Basically the same for deer, elk, squirrel, any hide. you can use the hair immediately......Dan

Congrats on getting an elk! I recommend cutting the specific pieces that you want while the flesh is still moist, then boraxing and drying individually, hair down, tacked to cardboard or plywood. Beats trying to borax the whole hide, much of which you don't want to tie with anyway and you'll end up with nice stackable and portable sheets of semi-preserved hide.
