    Default Sinking line leader questions

What should I use for my butt section to tie to my type 3 sinking line for stillwater?
    Dumb question?
    Thanks'

I use about 2--2.5 feet of 25-30# mono on my heavy lines
    15-20# on a 5 or 6 wt

That's just the permanent butt section.... then you add a tippet of 18" or so

Just me, but, I just put a loop on the line and attach straight mono or flouro. I have never understood the need for a tapered leader on a sinking line. I do understand different length of leaders so to speak or longer or shorter mono or flouro. Try to get in the zone. If the fish are about a foot or two off the bottom I will use a 3' to 4' piece of flouro and an unweighted fly and let the fly float UP to the zone.

I nail knot about 3 to 6 inches of 30 lb. mono to the tip with a perfection loop on the other end; then about 3 to 4 feet fo flurocarbon leader tied using 2 wraps around the perfection loop and an improved cinch knot. Never failed but what do I know I am just a NW steelheader.

A really easy way to connect a butt section is :

First dip about 1/8" of the tip of the fly line in fingernail polish remover to soften the fly line coating. After 15-30 seconds the coating will come right off. Then, take a sewing needle and open up the webbed nylon, being careful to not fray it too much. Just enough that you can take then end of the permanent butt and insert it into the nylon. It is kind of like a Chinese finger puzzle. At this point take super glue or even epoxy and coat that intersection with it sparingly( so it is a smooth transition). This will hold forever.

Since the nail knot recently failed me I have finally broken my stubbornness and went with the castwell to a looped leader on my sinking line.
