Selene Dumaine ties Carrie Stevens flies as Carrie did...by hand! She visited our FFF Club and did a tying demo for us, and we were mesmerized by here talent and her patience. Check out her website at http://users.adelphia.net/~sdumaine/

If you need a book, I'd highly recommend "Streamer Fly Tying and Fishing" by Joesph D. Bates. It is a classic and has most, if not all of Ms. Stevens patterns.

I know you will all think I am being pedantic, but I am Scottish.

    Joe,
Aren't all flies dressed by hand? What Carrie Stevens did was dress her flies without a vise, which is what a lot of fly-dressers did in those days.

I feel much better now, nothing like a bit of pedantry to start the day, and I said PEDANTRY.

Thank you, Donald, for setting me on the straight and narrow. Had I known you would be lurking in the background, I would have spent more time choosing my words so nobody would be confused. I consider myself duly chastised by one obviosly better educated than myself . In my 56+ years, I can honestly say I have never seen that word (in any of its forms) used in print or conversation on this side of the pond. I submit to your superior education.

P.S. I still think you are a gifted fly dresser, even if you are a slave to rules & details.

    Joe,
I'm glad you like the flies.
Actually, I left school at fifteen, I am seventy-two now, but I was a voracious reader, as were my parents, but I was still the product of a Scottish State Educational system which then was regarded as one of the best in the world, but that was a long time ago and things change, not always for the better.

See that Joe, you've given me an even better start to the day for an old codger, a good grump.

Ah well, back to the fly tying and fly fishing, tight lines everyone.
