    Default Braided leader and tippet connections

    I've had this braided leader for years, a gift from a friend, but have never used it. I've just attached it to my new 8 wt setup( WF/floating) but I'm not sure what the best way to attach a tippet to it is? Should one make a loop with the tippet and do a loop to loop or can I tie an improved clinch knot to the loop end of that tippet? Thanks for any help anyone can offer.

    racine;

    The one I have been using came to me with a loop in the end of the leader. Thus I use a loop-to-loop connection to my tippet. Yes, it does gather a bit of crud from time to time, but it works and I like it.

    Good luck!

    Loop to Loop

    Tie a small perfection loop on the end of your tippet section.

    I use a 6" extender clinch knotted to the tip eyelet as recommend by the manufacture (blue sky) and a perfection loop at the opposite end. I then attach a tippet section that also has a pefection loop and use the loop to loop connection.

    Although the perfection loop is easy to tie, being a lazy streamside fisherman and also finding myself in low light conditions often, I make tippet sections up in advance, place them in small plastic bags and mark them as to the tippet size and length.

    The idea of the extender is to protect the furled leader from accidentally being cut while cutting off the old tippet section. I have already accidentally cut the extender while removing the old tippet which could just as easily have been my furled leader...eh gads!

    Feather Craft and some guy on Ebay both sell tiney little metal rings for connecting tippett to furled leaders. I haven't tried one but if Feather Craft selss something it's usually a very good thing. I'll probably get some on my next order.
