It depends on the size of fly but it's mostly Gudebrod 3/0-10/0 and Pearsalls Gossamer for the spiders.

If I EVER run out of Gudebrod it will be Danville.

    Hi,

I use Uni thread 6/0 and 8/0 for 99% of my flies. Mind you, I rarely tie anything larger than size 10 or smaller than size 18, so those cover the ranges for me. I prefer the 8/0, but use both.

I use 8/0 90% of the time unless I'm tying for the saltchuck.

    Dry Flies, mostly Danville 6/0
Wet Flies, Nymphs, Streamers, buggers - Danville 3/0 is my default. Smaller than a 12 I often switch to Danville 6/0.

I'm really "calibrated" to using Danville 6/0 for everything.
I tried Uni 6/0 and don't like it because it won't lay flat.

i just love uni 8/0 for almost everything, but i use uni 6/0 to spin deer hair and for flies that need more strength.

Over the years, I've shifted to utilization of mono threads for most of my salt and warm water tying. I also use it for some cold water nymphs.

I'm not one for different brands and sizes, but I have been told that the /0 system is different for most brands. So, when people say 14/0 and 8/0 and 6/0 and 3/0 I really don't know what that means. My thread is Ultra Thread by Wapsi in either 70 denier or 210 denier. I know, big jump. I use the 70 for everything except large streamers and glo bugs. I don't spin deer hair often, but when I do I use whatever I need that won't build up too much on the hook I'm spinning on. Since I switched from no name thread to what I use now I have never had a problem with breakage. The smallest hook I tie on is 24 and I have never had a problem with build up. Anyone else use this and know what it corrisponds too? I'm kind lost as to what everyone else uses. Thanks.
