Echo Fly Reel

I recently purchased a used Echo large arbor fly reel. I wish to convert the retrieve from right to left, but lack the instructions to do so.

Hopefully one of you can be of assistance.

Remove the threaded cap that secures the reel spool. This is the knob opposite the drag knob. This exposes a phillips head screw that you will remove after the spool is removed.

Remove spool.

Remove screw at end of bearing assembly that was exposed when cap was removed and remove thin cap that this screw holds in place.

Slide bearing assembly off spindle shaft. Remove one-way bearing from housing, flip over, and replace into housing.

It can be difficult to get bearing out of the assembly. Easiest way to do so that I have found is to slide bearing assembly off of spindle then push back on. Usually the act of pushing the assembly back on the spool forces the bearing to come out of the assembly part way and you can get a grip on it and remove it the rest of the way.

After flipping bearing, reassemble all parts.

Go fishing.

I was really looking to purchase one of there rods and perhaps a reel, but cause i dont hear back im very weary about purchasing there product. Im a big customer service guy, and I tend to shop where I get service.

While I have no experiance with there reels I did need a replacement end cap for the butt of one of their rods. I sent them and e-mail enquiring as to the availability and cost of a replacement and they responded to my request within two hours and shipped the part at no cost to me. My customer service experiance was excellant.

I must confess that several hours before I made the initial post I E-mailed the Echo web site asking the same question. I figured I might as well cover all bases as it did not appear that the Echo reel is one of the more popular brands in this country.

I just received a reply from the Echo web site which gave the instructions to change the retrieve. That is slightly more than two days after I requested assistance.
