    Dear DShock,

    You were probably in a 2-stroke jet outboard, a 4 stroke jet outboard is much more quiet.

    The motor doesn't run any faster or make more noise with a jet pump than it does with a prop. Jets are 30% less efficient than a prop, but they don't produce any more noise with an outboard. 5000 rpm at the powerhead is 5000 rpm regardless.

    You are right! I have never been in a boat with any motor other than a 2 stroke.
    I was at a boat ramp one day and watched people trailering their boats. The motor that most impressed me was the Honda 4 stroke.
    The new outboards are amazing engines.
