    Default China Export Fowl

I recently recieved a Silver Pheasant pelt from China, that I bought offline on ebay. It is beautiful, but it had a very strong and I mean hang it outside strong ,smell kinda like maothballs but not. Has anyone came across this or have I gotten somthing that may be a mystery? The skin is dry, and the feathers are very easily pulled, there seem to be some kind of herb in there as well, I hope it was herbs well if anyone is familiar with this please let me know.

I am not sure what it is but I have alot of skins that are dry as a desert but still have a strong smell on them. For the most part I just bag it and ignore it.

Hi It must have been something they treated the skin with ,who knows what . I think I might wash the neck and re-dry it.
I just bought necks from a supplier and he told me that I got the last Chinese neck he had and his supply had dried up.

    Default Smelly Fowl

Thanks Guys Just wondered if I needed to ditch it, I had already stripped the featheres off and bagged them in small packages for storage, they are excellent feathers but that smell had me worried. i always strip the feathers and package them, in sizes and color and 15-20 per package. That way if anybody comes up needing something and I have it I can just find them and send them already packaged labeled, and clean.

I get skins with that same kind of smell here in the shop once in awhile as well. I think it is just something that they treat the skins with as they are always dry and clean.

I would just ignore it myself based on my previous experience.
