    Default Bluegill Fly?

While surfing the web I came across this pattern. It is touted as a BC trout fly, but I think it would be a fine bluegill fly and it is an easy tie. My question is - have any of you tried it on warm water fish?

    Tim,

My opinion is that it should be a good fly for warm water fishing. That pattern is in Dave Hughes' book, Essential Trout Flies, as the TDC nymph by Dick Thompson. Same pattern and material. It states, "The TDC represents black midge pupae, which are so prolific in lakes that you should carry it if you fish stillwaters at all." The pattern calls for it to be tied on the following hook sizes: 10,12,14,16 with 14 & 16 being the most popular. The pattern calls for either silver wire or tinsel for the rib and black fur for the body and abdomen with white ostrich herl for the collar.

I say, give it a try.

Fly fishing and fly tying are two things that I do, and when I am doing them, they are the only 2 things I think about. They clear my mind.

Warren: I tied half a dozen in size 10 & 12 on a mustad 3399. I added a few wraps of .015 for an underbody. I like their looks.

    Thanks

should be a great 'gill fly anywhere midges and or mosquitos are a major food source, and where aren't they? I think that I would try them in 14 as well as 10&12. You might try tying a few in red as well.
If it swims and eats, it'll eat a fly.
