My opinion is that it should be a good fly for warm water fishing. That pattern is in Dave Hughes' book, Essential Trout Flies, as the TDC nymph by Dick Thompson. Same pattern and material. It states, "The TDC represents black midge pupae, which are so prolific in lakes that you should carry it if you fish stillwaters at all." The pattern calls for it to be tied on the following hook sizes: 10,12,14,16 with 14 & 16 being the most popular. The pattern calls for either silver wire or tinsel for the rib and black fur for the body and abdomen with white ostrich herl for the collar.
I say, give it a try.
