Default Sunlight N K K Bamboo Fly Rod

I just purchased a Sunlight N K K Bamboo Fly Rod from an elderly gentleman. I know nothing about the rod at all. This is the first cane rod I ever owned. I paid $50 for it. It is in pretty good shape except one ferrule is bad. Did I get taken??? Also, how do I fix the furl?? I was thinking about just taking the rod to a real rod builder and having it sort of "renewed" a bit. What do you guys think?? Lastly how do I figure out the weight??

I believe that is a Japanese rod. They typically came in wooden boxes, often times with compartments for flies.

If there are no markings as to line size you may have to experiment with some different lines with sizes 5-7 being the most likely.

As to value, I have a feeling these days $50 is about right. Unless you fall madly in love with it, I wouldn't spend too much on restoration. Your money would be better spent on something new or of better quality. What is wrong with the ferrule?

The ferrule is cracked and bent. It will not even allow the other piece to fit within it properly. I am thinking that they all should be replaced. I am still rather new to fishing period, let alone fly fishing, so I am VERY proud to own a bamboo and now meet the eligibility requirements for some "bamboo only fish-ins".

Might make a fun project. Ask good questions on how to replace the ferruls and not screw things up in the process. You may have a nice rod in the end. Congrats!
