Fly Shop in Santiago, Chile

Visiting my son in Santiago, Chile who teaches at an International School here.

Went to this pretty small fly shop yesterday,although I think it is the largest in the City.

I saw a post that one of my favorite folks (Jay Smitt the maker of the Jvice and other tying tools) was coming to demo his vise and tying.

Had to take my daughter-in-Law to translate for me. Turns out, Jay is currently fishing down in southern Chile in the Patagonia Region and will not be here until the 11th of the month........I leave here the 9th! Bummer!! Jay came all the way here from South Africa and I came all the way from Hawaii and I will miss him by 2 days....

Bought the obligatory hat. The word "Sueltalo" in Spanish means "Let it Go"...i.e., Catch and Release:

How about you Byron? Doing any fishing?

Not this trip. Just hanging out with my son and his family.
Also, our good friend and our guide in Southern Chile was killed in a tragic hunting trip as he also guided hunters in the winter.
He and my son here were very close and my son wasn't ready to go down there with a different guide yet. He and I will meet in the Yellowstone area in June to fish together.

We live in amazing times!

I was sleeping this morning when my cell phone began ringing at 4:30. Who could be calling at this hour (in Hawaii)?

It was my son calling from Santiago, Chile using FaceTime. He was at the Santiago fly shop with others to see Jay Smitt, the owner and creator of the Jvice and other fly tying tools! I had forgotten that Jay would be demonstrating at that fly shop on this date. It was 4:30 AM here, but 11:30 there.

Anyway, I got to watch, through my phone, Jay demonstrating and got to have a short visit with him after he finished tying. Today's communication possibilities are truly amazing!
