Wow!!!!. Not even something I would think to ponder. No wonder the "Alpha" trouts evade me and I hook ( thankfully,often enough for me) only the Zetas.

PS: But, as usual, nice pic. And, as a pure GUESS, I'd drift the inside of the arc ( slower water) to just around the corner/bend where "he'd" be lurking. ???

There is a deep crease all along the rock face.
Not a wide crease.
The spring floods come down a straight stretch above the hole.
It takes a 90.
The raging water slams in to the rock and caused the crease.
It is the deepest hole in the entire stretch.
As I said, the "Zetas" are all mine. My "line" would have been the shallowest in that stretch.

I can't tell which way the water is flowing in the picture. I sure wouldn't be standing where the angler is.
I agree with the above that there's a good fish in the recess along the rock (and under the bush) -- shelter from aerial attack, food from terrestrials dropping off the bush.
However if the flow is from the top of the picture, I'd certainly also be investigating the sharp bend at the end of the rock wall as well. The incoming water may have washed out a deep spot there, and a fish in it would get first shot at any food being washed down into the pool. The spot is probably a bit less desirable if the flow is from the bottom of the picture.

If it were my hole i would lay right behind the small log against the high bank on the left side. Deep water & shelter because of the bank and log plus slow current. To eat all i would have to do is turn my head slightly to the right to sample all the food drifting into the pool

Almost directly across in front of the angler. Under those green over hanging limbs up next to the rock. Plenty of good cover, deep water bugs would drift right down to you. Assuming the current is coming from top of the picture.
