Man, if the fish pictures didn't make you want to go there the scenery would.

Wow; the old tesla coil really brings them to the net. Beautiful country.

I love that river! Being raised in the West (Western Colorado), I find the scenery homely. Goes to show how easy a person can take their local surroundings for granted.

I fished the SJ for 1/2 day, found the fishermen very rude, walked right through the hole where I was fishing and the guides anchor their boat right in front of the fishermen.

Gotta use the "stink eye glare" when you fish those waters. Good thing about the SJ is where ever you're standing, theres fish.

You probably fished near the Texas Hole.

If you put time in on the SJ you will realize that the Cable Hole area upstream is better for wade fishing. No boats up there. You can see the cable crossing the river and the area of the cable hole on the last photo.

The other areas I like are the side channels that fill up when they release over 1000 cfs. I've fished these all day and not had another fisherman come in except my fishing parners. But you have to leave the main channel and do some exploring.

If you have a 4 WD you can also drive up the other side of the river.

Finally, there is good fishing BELOW the quality water section well below the bridge. But again, you need to put in your time and get to know some locals to show you the spots they fish.

There are crowds on the San Juan but if you know where to go, you won't be crowded.
