I have a 3 wt. I built several years ago with a similar handle/seat. I was on my pontoon a few weeks back and had my reel fall off into the lake, luckily my drag was tight enought to pull it back up without unwinding the entire line and backing. Keep an eye on your bands when fishing they may work loose. Otherwise, I love the handle and the way you can feel the blank flex when you get a nice fish on. I wish my rod looked as good as yours, nice job Brad.

I have used the bands on the last 5-6 rods I have built and have had no problems. Never had one move yet, but there is always tomorrow.

Since you make your own they probably fit better than the set I have that came with the handle/seat I purchase. I was happy I got my reel back with not damage and without much trouble.

Five years ago I stopped making hexes. I did all the conversion math (a considerable job) converting form measurements from Hex to Quad. All I have been making in Bamboo for 5 years has been Quads. Why?
After casting and fishing quads I feel they suit me better than any hex I have cast. Yes, they are more difficult to plane because of the additional work back & forth in the forms. I built myself a power planer which does make things a bit easier. I am presently making myself a Don Anderson, 7'9", 5 wt, 2 pc quad which was the first hex boo I made 11 years ago. Love that rod so am really looking foreword to completing my New Quad. It should be a lil power house!
I even make my own N/S quad ferrules. (more fun)

Anyone wanting/needing info on the math conversion from hex to quad, e-mail me and I will share.

It's all about having fun and catching fish.

I think you ought to let me take that rod/reel off your hands.
