For $40 you can get a Hobbs Creek reel from Bass Pro. Cast disc drag reel. I own several, thousands of fish on them from bluegill to salmon, no failures or problems ever. Definitely a good investment if you have the $.

I've got a post WW2 Japaneese made Olympic that looks like it was never used. It's a Pfluger medalist knock-off. I'd ship it to you for $23.
    Thanks, Russ

I have not fished it but rather bought it for the old silk line that was on it. It's right hand wind only and very smooth with an adjustable drag. It's outside diameter is 3.25" and spool width is .800". It's black with chrome accents, a maroon plastic latch cover and maroon plastic handle. It could use a good cleaning to remove old grease and line residue.

i am definetly interested in this reel. is it seem to be decent quality? i don't need top end just something to get me moving in that direction. if you think will hold together for a couple of years i will probably buy it from you

I have to agree with that Hobbs Creek reel. Nice drag, great value.

I would purchase a reel along with the rod. There are a number of things that this would address such as fit of the reel to the seat, balance of the rod to avoid fatigue at the end of the day, comfort of reeling, etc. All reels are not necessarily made for all rods
