what are the red and blue, opened and not, 'mail icons' at the left of the page supposed to tell me? I don't seem to be able to see any correlation between what's new and/ or what I've opened and looked at

If you go to the main page of the forum and scroll to the bottom there is a partial listing of what the colors mean.

Open any forum and the icons tell you this:

Gray.. No new posts since your last visit.
Blue.. New posts since your last visit. The title of the thread will also be bold.
Red.. Hot thread.

If you see a little green circle with an arrow in it in the lower right of the icon, it indicates that you have posted in that thread.

If you see a padlock in the same place, it means somebody ticked off an admin and the thread got locked.

You may not see any change in the buttons after looking at a posting, until you either sign out or refresh the page.

Unless it's changed the red "hot thread"..... I'm pretty sure..... means there have been 150 + views.
