    Default San Juan River N.M.

Well after 5 months of high water the powers that be have turned down the faucet! water is clearing fishing is picking up. By the 25th it will be on! After 5 months of fishing junk it is good to fish mayfly and midge patterns again. If you got the time guys the first three weeks after high water is the best dry fly fishing of the year with BWO's, caddis, and midges boiling out of the water. I have been fishing BIG hoppers and ants with real good succes the last week.

    Bubba -

Greetings and welcome to the Bulletin Board from SE Idaho.

I gather you are from down in the San Juan area based on your reference to five months of junk fishing ??

I'm sure a lot of folks will appreciate your heads up on the improving situation down there. Is it typical for all those bugs to start coming off about the same time ?? Or is it going to be a result of the sustained high flows this year ??

You might want to fill out your personal profile, and post more of an introduction on the FAOL Forum. Look forward to seeing you post about your area and fishing down there, and a lot of us certainly enjoy photos to go along with posts, particularly fishing reports.

    Hope you enjoy your stay.

    John,
    Pictures will be coming asap.
We here been having a problem with siltation in the river during the drought the last few years but after record snow fall in the mountians this winter the river has been running above normal for quite awhile, which has cleaned out most of the silt. With the silt gone the bugs are going crazy this year. The BWO are a spring and fall hatch, the caddis a june/july hatch and the midges hatch through out the year. However, this year seems to be the exception as we are still getting heavy BWO hatches.
