Shouldn't be much though as they are light weight.

I am also a beginner and had the same problem. Learned about thread tension quick
and haven't had problems with since. Also putting on materials using the pinch method

I don't know about roof top tents but look at Cabela's web site they have SUV (something new to me) and pick-up tents.
They allow you use space pretty wisely. Been thinking of the SUV for myself.

Yes I will always use barbless hooks, just a good thing to do.
Mostly using flys that I will be tying (as a back-up for first few times out some store bought).
