I am currently...

It is not slop, it is the way the vice is made. With no tension on the operating cam the lever is free to move. I use mine as a production vice and have tied thousands of flies on it. It holds hooks...

50# test Seaguar fluorocarbon for both pike and musky. I will sometimes back of to 30# test Seaguar fluorocarbon for pike knowing I might get cut off once in awhile.

I never have. I am a big fan of the Gamakatsu and Owner hooks for pike and musky flies.

3" to 7" work well in Indiana. Lots of saddle hackle, EP Fiber, and holographic flash. Deer hair makes great heads and use the biggest eyes you can fit onto the fly. Gamakatsu G10S hooks 3/0 to 6/0...

I developed this fly in 1986 for fishing to Great Lakes steelhead. I still use it a often. It has been used on the great lakes streams as well as west the coast from...
If you make spinners then this is a snap. I use 0.035 music wire for the heavy shanks and 0.024 stainless steel leader wire for lighter weight ones. I have used 0.012 for very light weight shanks...

50 plus years ago when I learned to tie flies you pulled your thread through a block of beeswax before tying your fly. Works as well with GSP today as it did with silk then.

I use the size 12 cutter with a size 10 dry fly hook. I also use 3mm foam for the size 10 spider and 2mm foam for the size 12. For a size 8 and larger spider i would use the small or medium...
Here is a finished product. I tied around 500 of these in all colors last year. Slow year.

River Road Creations makes body cutters. Use the beetle body cutter. Use one size larger hook than they recommend. Use standard dry fly hooks.

What fly tiers code? Just say "no" if you don't want to tie a Power Bait imitation. The only thing worse than tying flies you don't like tying is paying the 10% federal excise tax on them when you...
Hi Jack,

I do not trust ceder alone. The worth of my fur and feathers is probably a couple grand or more. New material goes into a sealed garbage bag with a box of paradichlorobenzene moth balls and gets...
